Juvederm at a Glance
A Softer Approach to Volume
Juvederm is a collection of six hyaluronic acid fillers made for 10 areas of the face. Hyaluronic acid already exists in your skin, where it holds moisture and supports volume. Juvederm uses a modified form of it to create smooth injectable gels. Each formula has its own texture and strength. Some give structure to the cheeks or chin, while others move well in softer areas such as the lips. Juvederm adds volume beneath the skin. It doesn’t relax facial muscles; that’s the job of treatments such as BOTOX Cosmetic.
Restore Shape. Refine Proportion.
Juvederm can restore age-related volume loss, soften deeper folds, or refine a feature that feels out of proportion. The right approach depends on what’s causing the concern. Treating a crease and supporting the tissue around it are two different jobs, for example, and they may call for different products.
Some patients want fuller lips. Others want to bring back volume they’ve lost with age or improve a slight difference between the upper and lower lip. Juvederm can also sharpen the lip border, support the cupid’s bow, and soften vertical lines around the mouth.
Good lip filler should suit the rest of your face. One syringe can look quite different from one person to the next, which is why we don’t choose the amount from a photo or a trend. We look at your lip shape, facial proportions, and what you want to change.
Cheek volume tends to decrease with age. As the midface loses support, the cheeks may look flatter and the folds beside the nose can become more noticeable. Juvederm Voluma XC adds volume to the cheeks. It can restore shape, create a bit more definition, or support the tissue below. In some cases, treating the cheek improves a nearby fold without filling the fold itself. That choice comes down to anatomy, not a standard formula.
A small change to the chin can improve the way the lower face fits together. Juvederm may add chin projection or help create a cleaner transition into the jawline. Filler has limits here. It won’t remove significant loose skin, and it can’t make the same structural change as a chin implant, facelift, or neck lift. Since Mountain West offers both surgical and nonsurgical options, we can give you a straight answer about which one has the best chance of meeting your goal.
Volume loss beneath the eyes can create a hollow or shadowed look. Juvederm Volbella XC is approved for treating under-eye hollows in appropriate adults. Juvederm Voluma XC can also add volume to the temples.
These areas leave little room for error. The skin is thin, the anatomy is complex, and filler isn’t right for every concern. Dark circles caused by pigment won’t improve because volume was added. Prominent fat pads, swelling, and loose eyelid skin may call for another treatment.

The Juvederm formulas differ in texture, strength, placement depth, and approved use. Mountain West currently lists the following products among its filler options:

These timeframes come from treatment under study conditions. Your results may fade sooner. Product availability can also change, so we’ll confirm your options during your visit.
You don’t need to arrive knowing which filler you want. That’s part of our job. We look at your tissue, facial movement, skin quality, existing volume, and the depth where the product needs to sit. If several areas are throwing off the balance of your face, we may suggest more than one formula or spread treatment across separate appointments.

Juvederm hasn’t been studied for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, so treatment should wait. We also need to know if you take medication that suppresses the body’s natural defense system or treats an autoimmune disease.
The consultation is also where we talk about expectations. Filler can make a meaningful improvement, but it won’t stop aging or solve a concern caused by loose skin, muscle activity, or bone structure.
Precision in Every Detail
First, we’ll ask what you see when you look in the mirror and what you hope to change. Then your provider will examine your face at rest and in motion. This helps us see how the features work together and where volume has changed. Previous filler is part of that assessment. Tell us what product you received, where it was placed, and when you had the injections, if you know. Even older filler can affect a new treatment plan.
Once we agree on an approach, your provider cleans the skin and may mark a few injection points. Juvederm XC products contain lidocaine, and topical numbing may be added for sensitive areas. The filler is placed with a fine needle, a cannula, or both. Most appointments take 30 to 60 minutes. You’ll see a change before you leave, but don’t judge the final outcome in the treatment chair. Early swelling can make the area look fuller or less even than it will once everything settles.
A Few Smart Steps Before Treatment
Give us a complete list of your medications and herbal supplements. Include anything that affects bleeding, healing, or your immune response. Don’t stop a prescription on your own. Talk with the clinician who prescribed it first.
Let us know about recent dental work, skin injury, cold sores, chemical peels, or plans for laser treatment. Procedures scheduled too close together can irritate the skin and raise the chance of inflammation.
Give yourself some breathing room before a major event. Two weeks is a practical starting point for many patients, but some people bruise or swell longer. If you’re getting ready for a wedding near Flathead Lake or another photo-heavy weekend, ask us when to book.
Returning to Your Routine
There’s no long recovery, and most people go back to their normal routine after the appointment. You may still have visible swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness. Firm spots and small bumps can show up as the filler settles. The lips tend to swell more than areas with less movement.
Your provider will give you instructions before you leave. You may need to skip strenuous exercise, alcohol, strong heat, and pressure on the area for a short time. If your plans include a hard hike, a ski day, or a demanding workout, wait until you’ve been cleared to return.
Patients should avoid makeup for 12 hours after treatment. Most reported side effects clear within 30 days. Many fade much sooner. Call Mountain West if an expected side effect starts getting worse, lasts longer than you were told, or simply doesn’t feel right.
From First Look to Final Result
You’ll see added volume or smoother contours right away. Swelling can blur the result at first, especially in the lips. As it fades, the area should soften and look more settled.
A follow-up visit gives us a chance to check the result and make sure the treated area fits the rest of your face. Sometimes the smartest choice is to stop. In other cases, a small second treatment can finish the correction with more control than placing a large amount in one visit.
Juvederm can last from six months to two years. The formula, treatment area, amount used, and your metabolism all play a role. Products in the lips may fade sooner because the mouth moves so much. Filler in the cheeks can last longer.
Maintenance doesn’t have to follow a rigid calendar. We can reassess when you notice the result changing and decide how much, if any, you want to replace.
Expertise Behind Every Injection
Juvederm products are FDA-approved for specific uses. They’re still medical treatments, and every skin injection procedure carries some risk. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness, itching, discoloration, and firmness at the injection site. Lumps or bumps can occur as well. Any injection through the skin also carries a risk of infection.
Call your health care practitioner at once if you develop unusual pain, worsening pain, pale skin, or a blotchy pattern near the injection site. Vision changes, facial weakness, trouble speaking, severe headache, or dizziness require emergency medical care. Training makes a real difference with fillers. Your injector needs to understand facial anatomy, know how each gel behaves, and recognize trouble without delay.
Flexibility When You Need It
Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler, so a provider can use an enzyme called hyaluronidase to break it down in some situations. Dissolving may be appropriate if there’s a complication or you’re unhappy with the result.
Hyaluronidase isn’t an eraser. It has risks of its own, and the amount of filler removed can be hard to predict. An in-person exam should come first. Don’t massage or try to move the filler unless your provider tells you to.
A Plan Made for You
The cost depends on the formula, the number of syringes, and the areas being treated. A small lip treatment and a full facial balancing plan won’t require the same amount of product or time. We’ll give you a quote after examining your face and talking through your goals. Our recommendation is based on what your treatment calls for, rather than fitting every patient into a preset package. Financing may be available for qualified patients.
A Clear Look at Your Options
Juvederm and BOTOX Cosmetic do different jobs. Juvederm replaces volume and supports facial contours. BOTOX reduces muscle movement that causes forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Some patients benefit from both.
Other dermal fillers have different textures and ingredients. Poly-L-lactic acid fillers, for instance, encourage collagen production over time instead of providing the same type of immediate HA volume. They can last up to two years.
There’s no universal winner. The better choice is the one that matches your anatomy, timeframe, and actual concern.
