How Will I Know When I’m Ready for a Facelift?

Woman looking in mirror wondering if she is ready for a facelift

Nonsurgical treatments such as injectables are more effective than ever for rejuvenating the face. But they still don’t quite compare to the improvements a surgical facelift can offer. At a certain point in the aging process, going for a surgical approach can make more sense than continuing to pursue temporary solutions.

If you’re wondering if you’re ready for a facelift at my Kalispell plastic surgery practice, I offer a few common pieces of advice. This blog post will describe a few signs that it’s time to consider a surgical facelift.

Nonsurgical treatments fall short

Sometimes injectables or other enhancements can’t give you the improvement you’re looking for. If you have to get treatments done increasingly more often to maintain your look, it may be time for a more comprehensive facelift.

From a cost perspective, you may also benefit from a one-time, long-lasting investment versus continuous short-term treatments. While injectables often last for a few months and then have to be repeated, facelift results will remain for many, many years.

Jowls are causing your face to look square

Age can cause our skin and muscles to droop. This often leads to sagging in the lower cheeks that causes your face shape to change from oval to square.

A facelift is an unparalleled solution for slouchy, saggy skin. By lifting the underlying muscle and facial tissue during a facelift, your surgeon can make you appear as a younger, refined version of yourself.

You’re developing a double chin even without gaining weight

Weight gain is a common cause for developing a double chin. But sometimes factors such as aging, fat accumulation, and sagging skin below the jaw can create this same problem.

A facelift can greatly reduce a double chin with long-lasting results. When coupled with a procedure such as a neck lift, you can dramatically change the shape and appearance of your profile.

You’re prepared for some downtime

Many people prefer nonsurgical treatments because they don’t require downtime. However, if you’re prepared to take some time off for the sake of more comprehensive, lasting results, you’re probably ready for a facelift.

Giving yourself plenty of time to heal can help improve the longevity of your results. Some of our patients prefer to schedule surgery during a time when they’re indoors more frequently, such as during the colder winter months.

Determining that you’re ready for surgery is a very personal decision. But if nonsurgical procedures are falling short, and you’re ready to make a long-term investment, a facelift could be the perfect choice for your lifestyle.
